The government has decided to recommend Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal for appointment to a vacant seat in the National Assembly.
A Cabinet meeting held on Sunday decided to recommend Aryal, who is from Gulmi, for the position of National Assembly member.
In the National Assembly, one-third of the members’ seats become vacant every two years. Among the seats that become vacant, three members are nominated by the president on the recommendation of the Cabinet.
Earlier, Bam Dev Gautam had been nominated to the National Assembly. His term was set to end on March 4, but he resigned shortly before completing his tenure.
If Aryal is nominated by the president on the Cabinet’s recommendation, he will serve as a member of the National Assembly for the next six years. Members of the National Assembly can serve as ministers, but they cannot become the prime minister.
A lawyer by profession, Aryal is currently serving as home minister in the government formed after the Gen Z movement.
