Prime Minister Sushila Karki has said that she has confidence in Balen Shah, senior leader of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP).
In an interview with the Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS), PM Karki said she believes Shah’s election campaign conveyed the message that the Tarai, hills, and mountains are united, adding that she trusts him.
“I have confidence in Balen. I also hope something good will happen,” she said.
The RSP went into the election with Balen Shah as its candidate for prime minister, and the public has endorsed that decision.
The party won 125 seats under the first-past-the-post system and 57 seats under the proportional representation system.
After political parties submit the lists of proportional representation lawmakers to the Election Commission and the required procedures are completed, the process of forming a new government will move forward.
The RSP has expressed commitment to elect Balen Shah as the parliamentary party leader and subsequently appoint him as prime minister according to the agreement reached between them.
PM Karki said that she has fulfilled her responsibility of conducting the election.
"The new government must provide employment to the country's youth. It must create an environment for people to stay in the country. The situation of having to return in coffins after going abroad must end,” she said. “Improvement in education is necessary. An environment of trust in the country must be created. Nepal is extremely beautiful in terms of natural resources. Now, there should be no conflict or tension. An environment where everyone lives together in harmony should be created."
