CPN-UML Secretary Mahesh Basnet has stated that the Supreme Court (SC) cannot run away from the issue of House reinstatement.
Speaking at a program on Wednesday, he mentioned that the Apex Court should not shirk its responsibility. "The Supreme Court cannot run away from the issue of parliament reinstatement. This must be resolved immediately," he said. "If the parliament is to be reinstated, then all these activities and expenses being carried out in the name of election become unnecessary. And if it is not to be reinstated, then we can head to the elections with confidence."
He emphasized that there should be no delay in the judicial process. "It appears that judicial processes are being delayed, justice is being denied, or people are succumbing to pressure due to being terrorized, scared, lured by greed, or faced with interference—fearing that an impeachment might be filed tomorrow or being intimidated by national or international forces. That tendency has left the judicial resolution of the parliamentary reinstatement issue hanging,” he stated.
“We expected a hearing today, but it was moved to a later date. A trend has emerged where the chief justice and other judges disappear by claiming to have illnesses they don't actually have, turning off their phones, and avoiding responsibility. From this, it can be understood that we are under a significant foreign intervention. It feels as though not just our Supreme, High, and District Courts are burning, but our entire judicial system is on fire," he said.
