Senior leader of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Balen Shah is holding discussions Sunday regarding whether to resign as Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) mayor or not.
According to sources at his secretariat, he is in a dilemma about whether to resign Sunday because the law does not make it mandatory to resign from a local level position to contest for federal lawmaker. "It appears that one does not have to resign today to file candidacy for the federal parliament. Since the position would become vacant only if the candidate is elected, he is currently engaged in discussions," said a source close to Balen.
In the meantime, Balen Shah is set to visit the RSP central office 'Ghantighar’ on Sunday. RSP Spokesperson Manish Jha stated that there is a program to welcome him at the party's central office at 2:00 in the afternoon. "Party President Rabi Lamichhane and Mayor Balen Shah are coming to Janakpur on a Buddha Air flight at 5:00 this evening," Jha said.
Mayor Balen Shah has been made senior leader of RSP. However, he has not yet taken the oath. RSP is organizing an event in Janakpur Monday. President Lamichhane and Mayor Shah are the keynote speakers for the program.
