The ongoing second special general convention of the Nepali Congress will elect one party president, two vice-presidents, and two general secretaries.
Additionally, the convention will elect eight joint general secretaries. According to the Nepali Congress statute, these positions are divided into eight clusters: women, Dalit, indigenous nationalities, Khas-Arya, Madheshi, Muslim, Tharu, and backward communities.
According to information provided by the election committee, Gagan Thapa is the only candidate for the position of party president.
For the posts of general secretary, only Bishwa Prakash Sharma and Pradip Paudel have filed their nominations. Similarly, it has emerged that Bahadur Singh Lama has filed his candidacy for joint general secretary.
The election committee said that for most other positions, only single nominations have been filed.
The committee is scheduled to formally release the full list of candidates at 1 p.m.
Sitaram KC, coordinator of the election committee, said that nominations have been received for all positions.
"The distribution of nomination forms and the registration of candidates concluded at 11 a.m. Nominations have been filed for all positions. We are preparing to publish the list of candidates at 1 p.m.," he said. "Efforts are underway to reach consensus as far as possible, though that remains a political matter."
