Nepali Communist Party (NCP) Coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Co-coordinator Madhav Kumar Nepal have taken their oaths of office.
They were sworn in by the party’s senior-most member, Nanda Kumar Prasain, at a ceremony held at the party’s central office in Paris Danda, Kathmandu, on Tuesday afternoon.
At the same event, the party’s central members will be announced, and they will be administered the oath by Coordinator Dahal.
According to Jagat Sinkhada, chair of the NCP Valley Special Province, the central committee to be announced on Tuesday will have nearly 2,500 members.
“A total of 2,499 central members will be announced. Those announced today will serve as members of the general convention organizing committee,” he told Setopati.
The NCP was formed on November 5, 2025, following the merger of 10 constituent groups including the CPN (Unified Socialist). More than 17 groups and individuals have joined the NCP so far.
The party includes leaders ranging from Bam Dev Gautam, Bhim Rawal, and Rajendra Shrestha to Ranjita Shrestha of the Nagarik Unmukti Party. Just on Sunday, the Limbuwan Revolutionary Party led by Manish Limbu and a group led by Janata Samajwadi Party Vice-chairman Shivalal Thapa merged into the NCP.
When the party unification was announced on November 5, it was agreed to hold a general convention within six months and to form a 199-member central committee.
“The central committee will ultimately have 199 members. The central members being announced now will function as members of the general convention organizing committee,” Sinkhada said.
According to him, 60 percent of the central members are from the former Maoist Center, while the remaining 40 percent are from the Unified Socialist and other parties.
Since more than 200 central members from the former Maoist Center are yet to be finalized, not all members will be sworn in on Tuesday, Sinkhada added.
“Around 2,250 central members will take the oath today,” he said.
