Prime Minister Sushila Karki and CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli held talks at the prime minister’s residence in Baluwatar on Thursday.
The meeting, held from noon to late afternoon on Thursday, focused on election-related issues, according to the prime minister’s press coordinator Ram Rawal.
“There was election-centered discussion between them,” Rawal told Setopati.
Confirming the meeting, a UML leader said that Oli informed the prime minister that the UML is ready to take part in the election.
“The talks between Prime Minister Karki and UML Chairman Oli were focused on the election. The chairman emphasized that the government must create a conducive environment for holding elections,” the leader said.
According to him, at the beginning of the meeting, PM Karki thanked the UML for its cooperation in creating an election-friendly environment and expressed confidence that such cooperation would continue in the upcoming processes as well.
In response, Oli said that the UML is not a party that causes destruction, and that it would never engage in activities to obstruct or derail elections. He stressed that the government needs to play a stronger role in creating an election environment and focus on peace and security.
This was the first one-on-one meeting between PM Karki and Oli. Previously, they had held joint meetings and discussions at the President’s Office in Sheetal Niwas and at the prime minister’s residence.
