Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane has said that the implementation of the unification agreement with the Ujyalo Nepal Party (UNP) will now move forward.
Speaking to journalists on Thursday, Lamichhane said that the agreement will now enter the implementation process following Kulman Ghising’s resignation from his ministerial post on Wednesday.
The RSP and UNP have already reached an agreement for party unification. In line with this agreement, the two forces have already submitted an integrated closed list of candidates for the proportional representation (PR) system to the Election Commission.
However, despite the merger agreement, Ghising has not yet attended any RSP meetings or taken an oath of office within the party. Furthermore, the UNP has not forwarded its representatives' names to the RSP central committee.
During his resignation on Wednesday, Ghising remarked that the agreement with the RSP had not yet been implemented.
"We have reached an agreement, but the party needs to process that agreement. Now that he has finally resigned and joined us, the party will start the work of formalizing that agreement," Lamichhane said on Thursday.
