The newly-appointed Vice-chairman of the National Planning Commission (NPC), Dr Prakash Kumar Shrestha, and member Professor Sunity Shrestha (Hada) have taken the oath of office and secrecy.
Vice-chairman Shrestha took the oath before Prime Minister Sushila Karki, the chairperson of the commission, at a ceremony organized on Tuesday.
Member Hada then took the oath before Vice-chairman Shrestha, in the presence of PM Karki.
The ceremony was attended by NPC member and Chief Secretary Suman Raj Aryal, Secretary of the Prime Minister’s Office Rajkumar Shrestha, NPC Secretary Rabilal Pantha, and other high-ranking government officials.
Following the oath-taking, PM Karki congratulated the newly-appointed vice-chairman and member and wished them a successful tenure.
She instructed them to thoroughly study the country's current situation and prepare plans that align with the aspirations of Gen Z youth.
"We have given you this responsibility as experts," PM Karki said. "You are already aware of the country's current situation. We must take steps understanding this situation,. The country's plans and programs must also be formulated in line with the spirit of the youth movement for change. You must thoroughly study the current circumstances and work in a way that restores the country's credibility. I hope you will be successful in this task."
A Cabinet meeting on Monday had made the decision regarding the appointment of the NPC vice-chairman and member.
