The Supreme Court has issued an interim order preventing the removal of Madhesh Provincial Assembly member Kanchan Bichchha from her position.
A single bench of Justice Bal Krishna Dhakal issued the interim order on Tuesday, directing that Bichchha not be removed from her post.
Bichha, a lawmaker from the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), had served as a minister in the previous Madhesh government led by the CPN-UML.
The RPP had sought clarification from Bichchha and taken disciplinary action against her for joining the government without the party’s approval. Party Chairman Rajendra Lingden had directed Bichchha to withdraw from the government.
Challenging the RPP's disciplinary action, Bichchha filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court on Monday.
Responding to the petition on Tuesday, the Supreme Court also issued a show-cause order to the defendants.
