Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal and coordinator of the Rastra, Rastriyata, Dharma, Sanskriti Tatha Nagarik Bachau Maha Abhiyan, Durga Prasai, held talks for an hour at the Ministry of Home Affairs on Friday.
According to ministry sources, the meeting between Home Minister Aryal and Prasai and his group began at 5:30 p.m. and lasted until 6:45 p.m.
On November 23, the Supreme Court ordered Prasai's release. Police had arrested Prasai accusing him of making statements aimed at inciting society. However, the Supreme Court ruled that his arrest was not lawful.
This marks the first meeting between Home Minister Aryal and Prasai since his release.
"During the meeting, the minister said that if any demonstrations are to be held, they must be done in coordination with the government and they must be peaceful. He emphasized that violence will not be tolerated and requested the group to pursue non-violent paths," a source close to the home minister told Setopati.
Additionally, Home Minister Aryal urged Prasai's group to move forward politically. At least five members, led by Prasai, attended the meeting.
During the hour-long talks, Prasai also agreed to move forward politically, said the source.
"Following the home minister's request to bring their demands through political channels, Durga Prasaiji said that they were ready to proceed politically. He said that the government should not resort to suppression and should not restrict freedom of expression," the source said.
Referring to Prasai’s arrest in this context, Home Minister Aryal mentioned that guidelines had been prepared regarding the limits of what can be said in the name of freedom of expression.
