The government has decided to appoint Suman Raj Aryal as the chief secretary.
According to a minister, Monday’s Cabinet meeting decided to appoint Aryal, who had been serving as the defense secretary, as the chief secretary. He was a senior secretary.
Current Chief Secretary Ek Narayan Aryal is set to retire compulsorily on November 26 due to the 58-year age limit. Therefore, Suman Raj Aryal was appointed as the new chief secretary on Monday.
A resident of Jorpati, Kathmandu, Aryal was promoted to secretary on February 1, 2021. He had joined the civil service on May 1, 1996.
Aryal, who has a master’s degree in statistics, began his career as a section officer at the Central Bureau of Statistics and eventually served as its director general.
He has previously served in the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Planning of Sudurpaschim province, the Office of the Auditor General, and as the chief secretary of Koshi province.
He has also worked in the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, the Ministry of Women, Children and Senior Citizens, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and the National Planning Commission.
During his tenure at the Office of the Prime Minister, he served as the coordinator of the committee that drafted the government’s annual program for the fiscal year 2023-24. He is also regarded as a skilled administrator within the civil service.
