Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that elections are the basis for returning the country to the constitutional path.
Deuba made the remarks as he visited the party office in Sanepa on Tuesday in his first public appearance after over a month.
However, for that to happen, the government must be able to create an environment conducive to holding elections, he said.
"If the government can create an environment for elections, we believe that elections are the basis for returning the country to the constitutional path," he said.
He further said that the government must also ensure security for conducting the elections.
"The morale of the security agencies has dropped, and they have become dispirited. Therefore, it is the government's responsibility to normalize the peace and security situation for the elections and to ensure that the elections are held in a peaceful, fair, and fear-free environment, and that a situation is created where everyone spontaneously participates in the elections," he said.
