Interim Prime Minister Sushila Karki has urged the Election Commission to begin preparations for the elections scheduled for March 5, 2026.
During a meeting held at the Prime Minister's Office in Singha Durbar on Tuesday, Karki inquired with the commission about what the government needs to facilitate.
"We will provide all possible assistance," Karki said in the meeting. "Do whatever needs to be done."
PM Karki also urged the commission to initiate dialogue with political parties.
The commission informed Karki that it has called the parties for discussions on October 16.
"We informed the prime minister that we are ready to hold the elections. We have already announced the schedule," said Acting Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari, "We will announce the election program later. We have been working without even stopping for the Dashain holidays. Employees have been working until 8 or 9 p.m. We said that not just the commission, but all seven provincial and district offices have been working."
The commission has already published the schedule for the House of Representatives elections announced for March 5.
