Newly-appointed Prime Minister Sushila Karki has appointed senior advocate Sabita Bhandari as the attorney general.
Karki, who became the prime minister of an interim government under the pressure of the Gen-Z movement, appointed Bhandari as the attorney general. Bhandari is the daughter of 99-year-old senior advocate Krishna Prasad Bhandari.
Bhandari is the first female attorney general in Nepal’s history.
Ramesh Badal resigned from the post of attorney general after the then-prime minister KP Sharma Oli resigned on Tuesday. President Ram Chandra Paudel accepted Badal’s resignation earlier on Sunday.
Additionally, PM Karki is preparing to appoint five ministers on Sunday itself.
She has expedited efforts to form her Cabinet and begun discussions with five individuals since Sunday morning.
Karki is the first female prime minister in Nepal’s history.
Shortly after Karki took oath as prime minister on Friday night, President Paudel dissolved the House of Representatives and announced elections for March 5, 2025.
