Ishwari Devi Neupane has been sworn into office as the chairperson of the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee of the House of Representatives.
Speaker Devraj Ghimire administered the oath of office and secrecy to Chairperson Neupane during a ceremony held on Wednesday.
Neupane, a Nepali Congress lawmaker, was elected unopposed as the chairperson of the State Affairs Committee. In the nomination held on Tuesday for the committee chairperson’s position, Neupane was the only candidate.
Neupane previously served as the chairperson of the Parliamentary Hearing Committee. She resigned from that position on Tuesday and filed her candidacy for the chairperson of the State Affairs Committee.
Neupane’s candidacy was proposed by NC lawmaker Ramhari Khatiwada and supported by CPN-UML lawmaker Krishna Gopal Shrestha.
The previous chairperson of the State Affairs Committee, Ramhari Khatiwada, resigned from the post on August 12 after a parliamentary investigation committee held him morally responsible for errors related to the cooling-off period provision in the Federal Civil Service Bill.
