CPN-UML central committee member Ain Mahar is in police custody.
He was detained by the police on Wednesday. The police have taken him to the Kathmandu District Court for an extension of his custody.
An arrest warrant was issued for Mahar on August 25.
"He voluntarily contacted the police, and he has now been taken to court. A complaint against him was received through the postal service," a police source said.
An arrest warrant was issued for Mahar under the Electronic Transactions Act. There is also a case against him at the Cyber Bureau.
Some time ago, the UML had suspended Mahar from his position as a central committee member, raising questions about his conduct. However, the party lifted the suspension before the by-election in the Bajhang provincial assembly constituency.
Complaints had been filed against him at police offices in the past too.
