Nepali Congress lawmaker Ishwari Devi Neupane has registered her candidacy for the position of chairperson of the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee of the House of Representatives.
The nomination registration process was scheduled for Tuesday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Neupane is the only candidate for the committee chairperson's position.
NC lawmaker Ramhari Khatiwada is her proposer, and CPN-UML lawmaker Krishna Gopal Shrestha is her supporter.
Earlier on Tuesday, a meeting of NC’s top leaders decided to select Neupane as the party’s candidate for the chairperson of the State Affairs Committee.
Following the decision, Neupane resigned from her position as chairperson of the Parliamentary Hearing Committee and registered her candidacy for the chairperson of the State Affairs Committee.
Previously, NC lawmaker Ramhari Khatiwada served as the chairperson of the State Affairs Committee. He resigned from the position on August 12, after being held morally responsible by a parliamentary investigation committee for errors related to the cooling-off period provision in the Federal Civil Service Bill.
The positions of parliamentary committee chairpersons were allocated to different parties through a sharing agreement.
