Mohan Bahadur Thapa, a former central committee member of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), has been deported from the United States.
He was deported by US authorities a few days ago.
“He was deported by US immigration on August 7,” an immigration official told Setopati.
Thapa had been detained by US immigration in February this year. He had been involved in multiple fraud cases in the US. Thapa had a good relationship with RSP President Rabi Lamichhane while living in the US. When the RSP was formed, he returned to Nepal and became a central committee member.
Thapa is no longer associated with the RSP. Party spokesperson Manish Jha said that Thapa resigned seven months ago.
Although Thapa resigned from the RSP central committee, his name has not been removed from the RSP’s records at the Election Commission. The most recently updated list from the commission still includes Thapa’s name.
“We had submitted an application on August 1 last year to update the decision made on July 9. But the commission updated it only after 13 months. That’s why his name still appears,” spokesperson Jha said. “We do not take responsibility for someone who has already left the party’s duties.”
