Chief Minister of Bagmati province Indra Bahadur Baniya has won a vote of confidence in the provincial assembly.
Baniya's motion for a vote of confidence, presented in the provincial assembly on Tuesday, received 63 votes. Twenty-two lawmakers voted against the motion, while seven remained neutral.
Although the Bagmati Provincial Assembly has 110 members, 92 were present at Tuesday's meeting.
The provincial assembly’s speaker declared that 63 votes were cast in favor of the motion tabled by the chief minister, and that the number constituted a majority in the provincial assembly.
Baniya, leader of the Nepali Congress parliamentary party in Bagmati province, became chief minister with the support of the CPN-UML.
