The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a corruption case against Deependra Kumar Thakur, a lawmaker from the ruling CPN-UML in Madhes province, and 16 others.
The CIAA filed the case at the Special Court on Tuesday, accusing Thakur and others of committing irregularities in the construction of a 15-bed hospital building in Aurahi Rural Municipality of Dhanusha district.
According to Yagya Raj Regmi, information officer of the Special Court, the CIAA has demanded Rs 67.91 million in damages from the accused.
Thakur is a provincial assembly member elected from Dhanusha Constituency No. 3 (b).
Following the filing of the corruption case against him, Thakur’s position as a lawmaker has been automatically suspended.
