The CPN (Maoist Center) has demanded the resignation of Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak.
A meeting of the party’s office-bearers held on Monday concluded that Home Minister Lekhak should resign to facilitate an investigation as questions have also been raised about him in connection with the visit visa controversy.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, party Vice-chairman and spokesperson Agni Sapkota said that since questions have been raised and the relevant authorities have already initiated an investigation, the party concluded that Lekhak should resign to pave the way for a fair probe.
“The body concerned has begun an investigation. The conclusion of the meeting is that in such a situation, he (Lekhak) should resign and clear the way so that access, influence, and power cannot be used,” Sapkota said.
He also noted that demands for Lekhak’s resignation have come from within the Nepali Congress as well.
“Voices are being raised from all sides. Once such an issue arises, one should resign on moral grounds. Our conclusion is that he should clear the way for an independent and impartial investigation,” he added.
