Police have presented Sujit KC, coordinator of the National Democratic Youth Front, a sister organization of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), before the Supreme Court.
The Cyber Bureau of Nepal Police presented him before the court on Monday.
KC was arrested by the Cyber Bureau on Friday.
Advocate Raj Kumar Shrestha filed a habeas corpus petition on his behalf the same day, claiming that police had illegally detained KC.
Hearing the petition on Sunday, a bench of Justice Til Prasad Shrestha ordered the authorities to present KC in court and also furnish reasons for his arrest.
Complying with the order, police presented KC before the court on Monday. A hearing on the matter has been scheduled for Tuesday.
The Cyber Bureau said that KC was arrested under Section 47 of the Electronic Transactions Act, for spreading misinformation through social media.
The RPP has been protesting against KC’s arrest.
