The first edition of Sagarmatha Sambaad (Sagarmatha Dialogue), organized by the Nepal government, began in Kathmandu on Friday.
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli inaugurated the event amid a special ceremony in the capital on Friday morning.
Altogether 350 delegates, including 175 foreign guests, are participating in the three-day event. The foreign guests include Xiao Jie, vice-chairman of the standing committee of the National People’s Congress of China; Bhupender Yadav, India’s minister of forest, environment and climate change; and COP29 President Mukhtar Babayev.
Sagarmatha Sambaad is a multi-stakeholder dialogue forum committed to deliberating on the most prominent issues of global, regional and national significance. The main theme of the event is “Climate Change, Mountains, and the Future of Humanity.”
Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba, also the chairman of the event's management committee, welcomed distinguished guests of the event. The distinguished guests are addressing the event.
The inaugural session will be followed by parallel thematic sessions.
