The CPN-UML Koshi province committee has suspended two individuals, including the party’s former Taplejung district chairman, Bal Bahadur Samsohang.
According to committee Chairman Ghanashyam Khatiwada, Samsohang, currently a provincial advisory member, and Mani Kumar Pomu, secretary of the provincial tourism department, have been suspended from all party responsibilities.
“Stating that Samsohang had incited youths by calling for violence during the Youth Federation’s convention in Taplejung on May 1, the district committee had recommended action to the province,” Khatiwada said. “The province has formed an inquiry committee led by Vice-chairman Tikaram Chemjong. They have been suspended until the committee’s report is received.”
A clash broke out during the Youth Federation’s convention in Taplejung on May 1. UML claims that Pomu led one group, while Samsohang directed and incited them. Youth Federation Secretary and Koshi in-charge Niroj Paudel was assaulted during the clash.
Samsohang, once a close aide to UML Secretary Yogesh Bhattarai, is a former minister of Koshi province.
Chairman Khatiwada said that the province committee’s meeting on Tuesday decided to suspend Samsohang and Pomu, and that further action will be taken after the inquiry committee submits its report.
