The Supreme Court has issued a clarification regarding the unauthorized letter written to arrest Nagarik Unmukti Party (NUP) patron Resham Chaudhary.
Issuing a statement on Wednesday afternoon, Supreme Court spokesperson Achyut Kuinkel said that as the letter written to Dilli Bazar Prison by a section officer of the court was unauthorized, the court has written to the body concerned to not implement the letter.
He said that legal action has been initiated against the official who wrote the letter without authorization.
Mahiman Singh Bista, section officer in the Case Section of the Supreme Court, wrote a letter on Wednesday to arrest Chaudhary.
Acting on the letter, police arrested Chaudhary from the Nepal Academy premises in Kamaladi of Kathmandu, where the unification of the NUP and the Janamat Party was set to be announced, and handed him over to Dilli Bazar Prison on Wednesday afternoon.
Chaudhary’s arrest sent political shockwave and created confusion in the Supreme Court about how such a letter was issued.
