The Supreme Court has ordered Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Thapa to submit a written response in a contempt of court case filed against him.
On Tuesday, a bench of Acting Chief Justice Sapana Pradhan Malla and Justice Nityananda Pandeya directed Thapa to file his written reply within seven days, according to Supreme Court spokesperson Achyut Kuinkel.
The court has ordered Thapa to submit the written response himself or through his legally authorized representative, Kuinkel added.
Ananta Raj Luitel, Pratibha Upreti, and Bishal Thapa had filed the writ petition in the Supreme Court on Sunday, accusing Thapa of contempt of court.
Thapa recently made a speech claiming that the Supreme Court was delaying a case related to the appointment of 52 officials to constitutional bodies.
He said that the court had not yet delivered a verdict in the case even though those appointed to constitutional bodies were near the end of their tenures.
The petitioners argue that Thapa's remarks amount to contempt of court. The Supreme Court is currently reviewing the matter related to constitutional appointments.
