Thirty-four applicants have been shortlisted for the positions of office-bearers and members of two transitional justice commissions–the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the Commission of Investigation on Enforced Disappeared Persons.
The committee tasked with recommending officials for the two commissions has shortlisted 34 names from among 111 applicants and called for complaints against them.
Agni Prasad Thapaliya, Achyut Prasad Bhandari, Dilli Raj Acharya, Mahesh Thapa, Leela Devi Gadtaula, Bijaya Singh Sijapati, and Sher Bahadur KC have been shortlisted for the positions of chairpersons of the commissions. More than 30 people had applied for the roles.
Each commission will consist of five members, including the chairperson.
Similarly, the committee has shortlisted 27 applicants for the positions of members of the two commissions.
It has called for written or online complaints, with evidence, against the 34 shortlisted candidates to be submitted to its office by May 3.
The committee has also allocated time slots for the 34 shortlisted candidates to make their presentations. Those ranked 1 to 6 will make presentations on May 7 from 11 AM to 1 PM; those ranked 7 to 11 on the same day from 2 PM to 3:40 PM; those ranked 12 to 17 on May 8 from 11 AM to 1 PM; and those ranked 18 to 23 on May 8 from 2 PM to 4 PM.
Similarly, candidates ranked 24 to 28 will make their presentations on May 9 from 11 AM to 1 PM; and those ranked 29 to 34 on the same day from 2 PM to 4 PM.
After evaluating the presentations and complaints, the committee will make recommendations for officials and members of the two commissions to the government.
On March 24, a Cabinet meeting had formed a recommendation committee under former chief justice Om Prakash Mishra to recommend officials for the two commissions.
A previous committee, also headed by former chief justice Mishra, was dissolved after failing to recommend officials and members for the commissions within two months.
The current committee has also been given two months to recommend chairpersons and members for the two commissions.
