The main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) has decided to shut down its central office for five days starting from Sunday after some leaders tested positive for COVID-19.
The party had got around 250 persons including central members, their personal secretaries, staffers at the central office and security persons deployed in security of the leaders tested ahead of the central committee meeting on Monday.
Five including central committee members Gagan Thapa and Arjun Narsingh KC, and invited central members Shambhu Lal Shrestha and Kalpana Chaudhary have tested positive. Reports of around 160 persons have yet to arrive.
Chief Secretary of the party Krishna Prasad Paudel told Setopati that the party office will be closed until October 8.
The central committee meeting scheduled for Monday, to discuss whether the general convention can be held as scheduled in February 2021, has now become uncertain.
NC Spokesperson Bishwa Prakash Sharma told Setopati that the informal meeting of office-bearers and former office-bearers called for Sunday morning has been cancelled. The decision about whether to postpone the central committee meeting or not will be taken by Sunday afternoon.
