Nepal Students' Union has vandalized the offices of vice-chancellor (VC), registrar and rector of the Tribhuvan University (TU) on Tuesday.
The student wing of the main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) vandalized the three offices and the vehicle of the VC's office on Tuesday saying the TU officials did not sit for dialogue on the NSU demands and filed a case against its leader with the Patan High Court.
The window panes of the offices have been smashed while the vehicle has also suffered damages.
The students had earlier padlocked the TU offices including that of the VC. The TU had then lodged a case against secretary of the NSU's TU committee Yogendra Rawal on July 31. The offices were opened after the Patan High Court ordered they be opened.
An NSU leader told Setopati that the students had to resort to vandalism as the TU officials have yet to start dialogue over the NSU demands despite the offices reopening on August 7. "The TU intends to destroy an academic session citing the COVID-19 pandemic. It has done nothing to discuss on the alternatives of internal evaluation and online examinations, and take a decision," the leader pointed. "We have been forced to vandalize as they were not ready to listen to the demands of students."
The central committee and TU committee of NSU earlier had repeatedly handed over memorandum letters demanding that CPN cadres not be recruited at the TU.
