The main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) has accused that the current government is a puppet of middlemen.
Organizing a press conference at the party's central office in Sanepa on Monday, the party has said that the appointment of Sushil Bhatta as chief executive officer of the Investment Board has proved that the government is indeed a puppet of middlemen.
"The government has not listened to the people's sufferings and understood their problems," Joint General Secretary of NC Prakash Sharan Mahat said addressing the press conference. "We know that the government does not listen but it is the opposition's duty to keep on drawing the government's attention."
He stated that COVID-19 infection has surged since the lockdown ended and slammed the government for not expanding the scope of PCR testing despite the surge in infection which experts say has already reached the community level.
"Why keep the failed leadership at the Health Ministry? There have been irregularities in procurement of medical supplies to other things. There is a need for honest leadership for control of the COVID-19 pandemic," he added. "This government is not honest. But we have to tell this government until it remains."
He claimed that the KP Sharma Oli government has failed in everything including the fight against the pandemic and urged the people to remain safe instead of waiting for the government to keep the people safe.
Mahat, who is coordinator of the party's committee for study and monitoring of COVID-19, urged the people to implement the safety protocols including maintaining physical distance, wearing face masks, washing hands with soap and going outside the home only for essential works.
