Government Spokesperson Yuba Raj Khatiwada has assured that the government will not immediately impose nationwide lockdown.
Speaking during the weekly press conference to brief about Cabinet decision on Thursday, Finance Minister Khatiwada said lockdowns and prohibitory orders will be imposed locally in the COVID-19 hot spots but a blanket nationwide lockdown like the one that started on Marc 24 will not be imposed immediately.
"Lockdown has been imposed in over two dozen local bodies across the country now. The district administrations can impose lockdown considering the risk of infection but there is no immediate chance of a blanket nationwide lockdown like earlier," he added.
The government has imposed odd-even rule on public and private vehicles from Thursday with the surge of cases across the country. The rule has been enforced in the Kathmandu Valley and the districts with more than 200 active cases.
The public and private vehicles except the ones used for essential services will have to comply with the odd-even rule. Similarly, all passenger buses entering the federal capital, Kathmandu, will be prohibited from 7:00 pm to 7:00 am.
There will be no vehicles operating in the districts with over 200 active cases of coronavirus from 9:00 pm to 5:00 am while the government has warned that those violating the safety standard set by the Home Ministry and Health Ministry will face stringent action.
