Prime Minister (PM) KP Sharma Oli has held discussion with public health experts on Tuesday to decide whether to impose lockdown or not even as the country sees a surge of COVID-19 cases.
PM Oli has also called President of main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) Sher Bahadur Deuba, Chairman of Janta Samajwadi Party Mahantha Thakur for consultation of the pandemic. Ministers and secretaries, and other experts in the COVID-19 Crisis Management Center (CCMC) are also involved in the discussion. Oli had also discussed with experts before relaxing the nationwide lockdown that has since been ended.
Infection has been surging across the country in recent times. Birgunj, Biratnagar, Rajbiraj and other places along the plains have already imposed prohibitory orders and lockdown after the recent rise in cases.
It has also been rising inside the Kathmandu Valley with many people returning back following the end of nationwide lockdown.
