Prime Minister (PM) and CPN Chairman KP Sharma Oli has proposed to convene secretariat meeting to resolve the intra-party dispute.
Oli has made the proposal during the meeting with fellow Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal at the PM's official residence in Baluwatar Monday morning. Senior leader Jhala Nath Khanal and standing committee member Subash Chandra Nembang were also present during the meeting.
Oli had proposed secretariat meeting even during the meeting of four leaders on Sunday. But Dahal and Khanal had demanded that the resolution be sought through the standing committee.
"The dispute remains where it was. They remain adamant on their respective stands," a party source told Setoapti. "There is dispute about whether to convene secretariat meeting or resume the stalled standing committee meeting."
Oli has been demanding secretariat meeting in recent times figuring that he has majority in the nine-strong secretariat after apparent volte-face by Vice-chairman Bam Dev Gautam while Dahal and others have been calling for resumption of standing committee meeting due to their overwhelming majority there.
The anti-Oli faction had held standing committee meeting at Baluwatar Tuesday after Oli unilaterally postponed it indefinitely earlier on the day. Dahal and Khanal had gone to meet Oli to convince him to attend the meeting but he refused to comply and urged them to not call their meeting standing committee meeting.
The meeting of 29 standing committee members from the faction of Dahal and senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal had concluded that unilateral postponement of the meeting by Oli was inappropriate and against the party statute.
The meeting had then given the responsibility of convening the standing committee meeting after talking with Oli.
