Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba has nominated 479 cadres and leaders of different districts above 65 years to the senior politician assembly of the party on the day the faction of senior leader Ram Chandra Paudel holding a meeting accused Deuba of trying to influence the next general convention.
The leaders of Paudel faction, who met at the party's central office in Sanepa on Wednesday, concluded that Deuba has interfered in distribution of active membership to formation of different departments when the next general convention has already been announced.
But Deuba continued his appointment spree nominating 479 members to the party's senior politician assembly.
Senior politicians including former general secretary and House speaker Tara Nath Ranabhat of Kaski, former speaker Daman Nath Dhungana of Kathmandu to Hom Nath Dahal of Okhaldhunga have been nominated in the assembly.
NC Chief Secretary Krishna Prasad Poudel said the assembly has been formed in accordance to clause 50 of the NC regulations. Senior politicians above 65 years who are not in any political responsibility become the member of the assembly formed under chairmanship of central president at the center.
Similarly, there is a provision that senior politician committee is formed under chairmanship of provincial president in the provinces and district president in the districts.
Many NC leaders have slammed unilateral formation of the senior assembly by Deuba. Central member Minendra Rijal expressed displeasure that a high number of persons were nominated to the assembly from Deuba's home district Dadeldhura.
"A 479-strong senior politician assembly chaired by party president has apparently been formed. Just three from Morang have been included while around two dozens from Dadeldhura have been included. I am confounded whether all are young in Morang or I have lost my knowledge about the ratio of party's history," Rijal has posted on the social media. "I am still pondering whether party president Sher Bahadur Deuba by nominating the senior politician from Dadelhura Sher Bahadur Deuba to the senior politician assembly has displayed generosity to senior politician from Tanahu Ram Chandra Paudel or youths for the upcoming general convention."
