Over 150 central committee members of CPN have submitted signatures demanding central committee meeting be convened even as the standing committee meeting has become hostage to the ruling party's internal dispute.
The signatures of 152 members collected some time back have been handed over to secretary at the party's central office in Dhumbarahi Sriram Dhakal on Wednesday.
The signatories are all from the factions of Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal, and have demanded central committee meeting pointing that the secretariat and standing committee have failed to resolve the current problem.
They have pointed that everybody should get to participate as resolution of the current dispute is related to the party's future. "The phase CPN is going through, a 441-strong central committee can take decision on that with greater knowhow than a 45-strong standing committee (only 44 now with Agni Sapkota currently Speaker)," Thakur Gaire, one of the leaders who initiated the signature campaign, told Setopati. "We have started signature campaign feeling that the central committee can put pressure in support of party unity."
Central committee meeting has to be called within a month of 25 percent of members (111 now) demanding one submitting their signatures according to the party statute.
