Leaders including former general secretary of RPP Sunil Thapa will join Nepali Congress (NC) on Tuesday.
A total of 31 leaders including the son of RPP founder Surya Bahadur Thapa had submitted resignation to RPP on Saturday.
"Leaders including Thapa will join NC today. A program has been scheduled at the central office at three in the afternoon to usher them in," an NC leader told Setopati.
A source claimed that Thapa has demanded with NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba that he be made general secretary even in the main opposition party and other leaders central committee members.
But an NC source claimed that they will not be given any responsibility today itself. "Discussions are on to make Thapa joint general secretary," the leader said. The party is also planning to make few of the ex-RPP leaders central committee members and invited central members.
Thapa had been speaking in support of republicanism in RPP. He has quit the monarchist RPP due to ideological differences. He had mentioned ideological deviations in the joint resignation letter submitted to RPP on Saturday. The party had been telling Thapa it is not possible to talk about republicanism inside RPP.
