Office-bearers of the main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) are meeting Sunday afternoon to discuss on changing the schedule for general convention, prevention and control of COVID-19 and other issues.
"The office-bearers' meeting will discuss on schedule of the general convention, COVID-19 pandemic and other issues," NC Spokesperson Bishwo Prakash Sharma told Setopati.
NC has already announced to hold the 14th general convention from February 19-22, 2021 in Kathmandu.
Distribution and renewal of active membership has been stopped due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The party had stopped all party activities since March 4.
The schedule for general convention made public by the central committee meeting on December 27, 2019 required distribution and renewal of active membership by mid-July. But the works have yet to start due to the pandemic.
The party also has yet to complete integration at the eight levels as required by the federal structure in most of the districts.
Senior leader Ram Chandra Paudel during the interaction with leaders and cadres of Province 5 on Saturday stated that works for the general convention should start changing the schedule. Paudel had also stressed on the need for changing the schedule soon to hold the general convention as per the schedule during the office-bearers' meeting held at the residence of NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba a few days back.
Deuba has already extended his four-year term by a year as allowed by the party statute. The general convention has been scheduled after expiry of the extended term.
