The main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) has handed over a memorandum letter to Prime Minister (PM) KP Sharma Oli drawing his attention toward serious and effective work in prevention and control of COVID-19 pandemic.
A team of NC parliamentary party led by Chief Whip Bal Krishna Khand handed over the letter to PM Oli at the latter's residence in Baluwatar Tuesday afternoon. NC Whip Pushpa Bhusal, who was also in the team along with lawmakers including Gagan Thapa, Bhimsen Das Pradhan and Rajan KC, said the letter urged PM Oli to become serious in control of the pandemic and to broaden the scope of PCR testing.
The recent central committee meeting of NC had concluded that the government has failed in controlling the pandemic. The party had formed a committee under Deputy General Secretary Prakash Sharan Mahat to monitor the impact of COVID-19 and the government response.
The party has also been demanding the details of over Rs 10 billion the government says it has spent on the pandemic be made public.
