The main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) has slammed the government for rape of a woman in a quarantine facility in Kailali.
"The incident of rape in a quarantine facility in Kailali is serious and condemnable. Nepali Congress demands stringent action against anyone involved in the crime without any prejudice," NC Spokesperson Bishwo Prakash Sharma has said issuing a statement on Monday.
Sharma has asked the government to look at its image of incompetence in the dismally ill-managed quarantine facilities. "Quarantine facilities prepared without any standard are becoming centers of transmission. Citizens have absconded from different quarantine facilities in the country due to mismanagement. Questions have been raised whether the quarantine facilities are there for safety or punishment, and the incident of rape eventually has smeared the face of governance capacity of the communist government," the statement reads.
The party has rued lack of security in the quarantine facility despite three levels of government in the country. "What can be more shameful if the three levels of government cannot provide security to a woman in the quarantine facility? Is moral responsibility of those utterly negligent in management and security of quarantine facilities tied to this incident or not?"
A woman staying at a quarantine facility in Shahid Smriti Secondary School of Lamki Chuha municipality 1, Kailali was allegedly gang-raped Saturday night. The woman on Monday has filed a police complaint identifying three volunteers at the quarantine facility.
