Prime Minister (PM) KP Sharma Oli has called a meeting with experts of different fields Wednesday afternoon to forge the strategy to fight COVID-19 pandemic even as people across the country have started to defy lockdown.
PM Oli's press advisor Surya Thapa told Setopati that health experts, economists, planners and others have been invited to Baluwatar for the meeting to discuss about the strategy to fight the pandemic and the modality of lockdown.
A total of 25 experts including President of Nepal Medical Council Dr Bhagwan Koirala, former vice-chairmen of the National Planning Commission Shankar Sharma, Pitambar Sharma, Swarnim Wagle and others have been invited for the meeting.
The nationwide lockdown imposed continuously for over 70 days has created economic and humanitarian problems for the commoners and businessmen alike, and people across the country have spontaneously started to defy the restrictions.
The businessmen have been repeatedly advising the government to do away with the current one-size-fits-all model of lockdown and to gradually start opening up the low-risk sectors, and divide places on the basis of risk and relax the lockdown in low-risk areas.
But the government has not listened and continued with the blanket lockdown fearing an explosion in infection and a health catastrophe.
