The main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) has accused the government of making political appointments to dole out jobs to its cadres at the time of pandemic.
"The government seems to be moving forward with an intention of political management and giving jobs to those close to it by forming a few commissions shirking from its responsibility toward the people at the time of this serious crisis," Chief whip of the NC parliamentary party Bal Krishna Khand has said issuing a statement.
The government recently appointed Devi Gyawali of Chitwan to the Squatters Commission.
NC has reminded the government of its main duty of controlling and mitigating the pandemic, and treatment of those infected. Khand has stated that the government is not serious about fighting the pandemic even when the opposition parties are helping the government.
"The people are suffering due to the government's failure to make proper arrangements after announcing a long lockdown," the statement says.
It has called the government's failure to procure medical supplies incompetence, and even raised questions about its intention.
It has thanked the doctors, nurse and health workers, security persons, civil servants and local level representatives for fighting round the clock.
The government should be sensitive, serious and accountable toward safety and security of everyone deployed to fight the pandemic, NC has demanded, and added that the government should feed the people who are returning home on foot.
