The main opposition party Nepali Congress (NC) has distanced itself from the all-party mechanism proposed by CPN Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and said it will help the current government as far as possible.
Dahal recommended an all-party high level mechanism including the ruling and opposition parties and important persons to fight COVID-19 pandemic in an interview to Image Television on Thursday, and claimed he has already urged the prime minister and leaders of political parties about that.
But NC Spokesperson Bishwo Prakash Sharma has said CPN and its government has not made any proposal about such mechanism. "The government and CPN have not made any proposal about that. It would not be appropriate to comment when there is no proposal," Sharma told Setopati. "We will help this government in capacity of the opposition as far as possible. The elected government should do the work."
He pointed that there is no need for the high level political mechanism when there are government and opposition parties. "The opposition is lauding the good works of the government and advising it to do good works," he pointed. "We will raise voice against corruption, irregularities and malpractices, and help this government as far as possible."
He added that there is no need for the main opposition party to comment when Dahal's proposal for the mechanism has not even been discussed inside the ruling CPN.
