Nepali Congress (NC) lawmaker Gagan Thapa has urged the government to slash salary of lawmakers and add the benefits for health workers and security persons on the frontline of fight against COVID-19.
Thapa has made the proposal at a time when there have been reports of cutting salary of Nepal Police officers, and health persons at some places and depositing them to the relief fund. "Let us make efforts to boost the morale of health workers and security persons, who have been carrying out their duty on the frontline without caring for their life by raising their salary, allowances and security slashing salary and benefits of those working under lesser risks including us lawmakers at this time of great crisis," Thapa tweeted on Thursday.
Decision has already been taken to slash salary of the president, prime minister, ministers and lawmakers, and deposit that in the relief fund. Local bodies have also taken decision to cut salary and allowances of people's representatives and put that in the relief fund.
