The government has announced a special relief package for those affected due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Cabinet meeting Sunday evening took the decision endorsing the recommendation made by the high-level coordination committee to fight the pandemic formed under Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Ishwore Pokharel earlier on the day.
There was widespread pressure on the government to alleviate the brunt of the nationwide lockdown on daily-wage workers and the poor.
The local bodies will identify such daily-wage workers and provide relief to them. The workers will have to submit their identity to the bodies concerned. The local bodies will provide enough fund to ensure that their daily caloric needs are met, according to Finance Minister and Government Spokesperson Yuba Raj Khatiwada.
The government has also announced special care for pregnant women, people with disabilities, people with chronic illness and orphans.
