Central member of Nepali Congress (NC) Gagan Thapa has pledged to stand for change in the meeting of Krishna Prasad Sitaula led faction.
Thapa praised the role played by Sitaula in support of procedure and party statute by choosing the middle path when there is dispute between NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba and senior leader Ram Chandra Paudel.
"We have called out right and wrong without any hesitation under leadership of Sitaula," Thapa stated during the meeting held at Battisputali, Kathmandu. "We will gain strength and create an environment for change."
He stressed that leaders of his generation should instill confidence that the NC of future will be good. "We will have to forge unity inside the party and run in accordance to the statute. We are not dallying. We have to use all our power to hold the general convention in time," he opined.
He pointed at the rising disputes inside the party and blasted Deuba for appointing department chiefs against the statute when distribution of active membership has already started. "Why are there more departments than prescribed by the statute? It is wrong to form departments now," he stressed.
He added that Deuba nominated party president in Nawalparasi violating the statute. "The series of controversial decisions have vitiated the environment for general convention. The party president should convene general convention without any ifs and buts. The success or failure of president depends on ability to hold the general convention in time or lack thereof."
