Foreign Minister Pradeep Gyawali has clarified that Nepali envoy to China Lila Mani Paudyal has not been called back due to poor performance.
Addressing a press conference at the Foreign Ministry on Monday, Gyawali stressed that Paudyal has been called after the government concluded that a high-level political person should be deployed in neighboring countries as far as possible.
The Cabinet meeting on Sunday decided to call back Puadyal who was sent to Beijing with the status of a Cabinet minister by the then Pushpa Kamal Dahal government three years back.
"There is no question about his performance and integrity. He is a capable and man of integrity from civil service," Gyawali said. "We have started to send new persons as sending envoy from high political level makes it easier to deal even some political questions in relation between two countries. I urge to understand only this much."
The government is preparing to send former foreign minister Mahendra Bahadur Pandey to replace Paudyal. The Cabinet meeting on Sunday discussed about that but no decision has been taken yet.
