Leader of the main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) Sher Bhadur Deuba has reminded newly elected Speaker Agni Sapkota that he no longer belongs to ruling CPN and urged him to run the House taking the opposition in confidence.
"You don't belong to the party after being elected speaker! Do move forward taking the opposition in confidence, we will provide full cooperation," Deuba stated speaking in the House of Representatives (HoR) meeting on Tuesday.
He congratulated Sapkota and urged him to play a neutral role. He also pointed that NC did not filed a candidate for the post as the speaker should be fair and neutral. "The then speaker Daman Nath Dhungana had said that the House belongs to the opposition when we were in power," he reminded.
Pointing that the peace process has yet to be completed, he expressed confidence that Speaker Sapkota will help in completing the pending works of peace process.
