Speaker Agni Sapkota has resigned from all party responsibilities after assuming office on Monday.
Issuing a statement after being sworn in on Monday, the CPN standing committee member has quit all party responsibilities effective from Monday. He has separated from the party, according to him, to play the role of speaker in a free and neutral manner.
"Requesting that I have no involvement in all responsibilities of CPN from today itself, I inform that I have also quit membership of that party," the statement reads.
Sapkota was elected unopposed on Sunday.
