The provincial assembly of Province 3 on Sunday has unanimously named the province Bagmati.
Speaker of the provincial assembly Sanu Kumar Shrestha said the proposal to name the province received votes from all 108 members who were present Sunday. The provincial assembly has 110 members.
The assembly also picked Hetauda the provincial capital. The proposal received 105 votes.
The proposal of Bibeksheel Nepali Party to pick Dhulikhel as the provincial capital has been rejected.
Parliamentary party leader of Nepali Congress Indra Bahadur Baniya had presented the proposal to name the province Bagmati while Chief Minister Dor Mani Paudel proposed Hetauda be picked as the capital.
The proposals were put for voting after CPN, NC, RPP and RPP (Sanyukta) jointly proposed that the province be named Bagmati and Hetauda be picked as capital.
